siblings

I'm thankful for these two. My older brother John Mark and younger sister Lizzie. JM came home yesterday and Lizard will be home from camp next week. Moments when we are all together have become less frequent since JM and I are in college/grad school. The time we have is precious and fun indeed.

a week's review

1. My dad and sister have Napoleon Dynamite memorized. Seriously, the whole thing. Naturally, this picture makes me happy because it reminds me of them cracking up at themselves quoting this movie.
2. In practicing my calligraphy this week, I ruined a shirt. One I wear all the time. It had the best neckline and could be worn with dress clothes or casual. Can you tell I'm sad about it? (Side note: I spilled my milk all over my lap when trying to salvage my shirt. Yes, I was frantically running through the house to get my hair spray (apparently this gets out ink... false) with milk dripping from my shorts. Humorous, I know.)
3. I worked 12 hours on both Tuesday and Thursday (as well as working other hours on Monday, Wednesday and Friday). I am very thankful to be employed for the summer. However, I will say it has made me appreciate and look forward to a lazy, slow weekend.
4. Look at Avis' blog to see my new DIY projects and recipes that will be posted throughout the summer. It has been such a joy to be making things after such a lull.
5. We are having grilled salmon and summer vegetables for dinner tonight. I couldn't think of a better way to start off the weekend.

warning: while there are lots of interesting pictures on this site there are some unusual and weird ones too. Don't say I didn't warn you...

new project

I have been inspired by Lila Symons and her goal to write something in calligraphy everyday. So, while my sister is at camp for a month, she will be receiving letters written in calligraphy from yours truly.

calligraphy

I tend to scout out calligraphers because it is a dream of mine to be able to write as beautifully as these talented women. The doily is a note to Martha Stewart readers and the one below is a save the date card featuring a photo taken on the Brooklyn Bridge. I thought they were both very inspirational and unique.

meet the girls

Millie (left) and Rosie (right).

I like to think we are not those people who are obsessed with their animals. We're not obsessed but the dogs are part of the family. They have funny, unique personalities that fit perfectly with our family's crazy sense of humor. They let us dress them up in clothes, inner tubes, goggles, boxers, really anything. Yes, they just sit there. They have middle names: Millie Camellia and Rosie Louise. Lizzie, my younger sister, used to dress Millie up in her baby doll clothes and push her around in a stroller. We used to paint her nails pink on occasion. Not to mention, she did wear fake pearls for years and she crosses her paws when she sits--a true lady. Rosie, on other hand, we like to say is "book smart" but has no common sense. She's not the brightest crayon in the bunch but she's sweet. (and she has my hair coloring. how fitting since they did replace me with her after they took me to college). They will bark on command to the words squirrel or cat, including cat sounds. Little rosebud is indeed "book smart" because she will respond to Rose, Rosebud, Rosie, Wienie, and Wiener. Although she will bark at her reflection in the window and piano for thirty minutes, she has conquered her fear of the life-size cardboard cut out of Elvis in our basement (no worries, he will make an appearance soon, as well).

I needed to introduce them since I have a file of funny photos that I'm sure will pop up on occasion. You'll appreciate them more if you know them.
