bouquets and boutonnieres

When I am brainstorming a new project or visually in a rut, I turn to my folders of ideas I've come across and saved over the years. This is one of my all time favorite images. I am breaking all codes of the blog world by not giving credit where credit is due but I simply have no clue which blog this image is from. If you know, please let me know!

Flowers are one of the most inspirational things to me. Such variety of color and textures...the possibilities are really endless. This color combination simply makes my knees weak. Seriously, this bouquet is gorgeous. And the boutonnieres are pretty fabulous as well.

a week's review

This week consisted of:

1. Sitting for ten minutes parked (literally) on highway 12 in Starkville while the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally passed through town. This would only happen in a small town in Mississippi (or Alabama). And only in MS or AL would there be people lined up along the highway sitting in lawn chairs to watch the riders in their fine array of too-tight leather attire pass by.

2. I think I've been to the grocery store at least every other day. I can't get a handle on this cooking for myself every night business.

3. Called my 24 year old brother for cooking advice. He's a much better cook than I am and I love that he'll give me tips.

4. Today is my roommate's birthday. I did successfully bake a family favorite, Aunt Jane's Chocolate Cake, for us to celebrate with tonight.

5. I have to agree with my friend Molly in her response after leaving our thesis class in that she needed a stiff drink. The looming work is already piled high ahead. November 30th it will be DONE. I will be DONE. and I cannot wait.

6. Saw "The Switch" last night. The little boy was precious. He made the movie worth seeing.

7. Tomorrow I am baking "the best blueberry muffins" my grandmother has ever tasted from Cooks Illustrated. Good start to the week I believe.

kept by god

Hydrangeas from our yard this summer.

Jehovah God,

Thou Creator, Upholder, Proprietor of all things, I cannot escape form thy presence or control, nor do I desire to do so. My privilege is to be under the agency of omnipotence, righteousness, wisdom, patience, mercy, grace.

Thou art love with more than parental affection; I admire thy heart, adore thy wisdom, stand in awe of thy power, abase myself before thy purity.

It is the discovery of thy goodness alone that can banish my fear, allure me into thy presence, help me to bewail and confess my sins. When I review my past guilt and am conscious of my present unworthiness I tremble to come to thee, I whose foundation is in the dust, I who have condemned thy goodness, defied thy power, trampled upon thy love, rendered myself worthy of eternal death.

But my recovery cannot spring from any cause in me, I can destroy but cannot save myself. Yet thou hast laid help on One that is mighty, for there is mercy with thee, and exceeding riches in thy kindness through Jesus.

May I always feel my need of him. Let thy restored joy be my strength; May it keep me from lusting after the world, bear up heart and mind in loss of comforts, enliven me in the valley of death, work in me the image of the heavenly, and give me to enjoy the first fruits of spirituality, such as angels and departed saints know.

my baby

When I was 8, my precious, sweet sister was born. I took on the role of her second mother and tend to think of her as my child. She was my live baby doll. And now this sweet sister is 14 and started high school today. This sister has a heart of gold and feels deeply the pain of others. This sister has an understanding and love for the Lord beyond her years. And this sister cares for people so much that she has taped a prayer requests list in the back of our shower where she sees it everyday. I took this picture at the beginning of the summer and it now is too full to write anything else on it. I love the reminder of what the Lord can do in our lives even when we're young. So here's to you little Lizard...I am thankful for you.

I just about drooled when I saw this. What a fun concept and great branding by Landers Miller Design. Wouldn't you love to see this truck passing through busy Manhattan? Their website is well designed also (found here).
